Friday roundup: 5 Helpful and Inspiring Items
Hi Parents,
It’s Friday again! Time for my weekly roundup of helpful and/or inspiring items for you to peruse.
It is really helpful to know if you have a highly sensitive child (also called '“orchid” children). Look at this checklist and see if these descriptions fit your child. This podcast episode from Susan Cain is about raising highly sensitive children and it is a valuable listen. What they have found is that highly sensitive children can wilt in a home situation that does not meet their needs but when they are in a home environment where parents are attuned to their emotional needs and raise them in the way that they need (hint Hand in Hand parenting), they have better outcomes than their non-highly sensitive peers. Fascinating and as I said above - really important to know if you are parenting one of these kids. I am (20% of kids are)! So we will continue to dig into this topic.
If you missed it, I offered a video on creating safety in our relationships with our children. You can watch it here. Or just stick in earbuds and take a walk with it!
Fellow Hand in Hand Parenting instructor, Roma Norriss, shared what it has meant to her to use the Hand in Hand tool called Listening Partnerships. The depth found in this tool is never-ending. See her description here.
Brene Brown says: “owning our story and loving ourselves through that process is the bravest thing we’ll ever do”. I agree. Refer to Roma Norriss’ description linked above. Listening partnerships are a tool for uncovering and owning our stories. It is what can take you from feeling stuck in your parenting to changing negative patterns and renewing the relationships under your roof. There is no end to the benefits. I would like to start offering listening time to this community. More soon!
Do you need to refresh your game options at home? My kids love games. Check out Skipbo, Spot It, Megaland and Catan. All have the Dailey family stamp of approval. Feel free to shop at your local toy store instead of where I linked!
I hope you have a deeply connected, laughter-filled weekend with your crew.
Love, Kate
